About Us
The Swamp Fox Writing Project is located at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. It is a division of the National Writing Project, a program dedicated to improving writing across America. The Swamp Fox Writing Project is dedicated to supporting teachers in the Pee Dee region as well as helping students become stronger, confident, and skillful writers.

The collaborative efforts of local site leaders and the NWP provide grants for eligible teachers to attend the Summer Institute at FMU as Writing Fellows. Participation in the Institute offers teachers an opportunity to improve their writing, develop new skills to teach writing, and earn graduate credits. We also offer a variety of professional development programs and classes for teachers at locations within school districts across the Pee Dee.

The Swamp Fox Writing Project is a gateway to many opportunities, including participation in the annual National Writing Project Conference, which often leads to publication and access to resources for professional development in technology.

Our network also includes the South Carolina International Reading Association (SCIRA), the South Carolina Council of Teachers of English (SCCTE), and the Writing Improvement Network (WIN). All of these organizations promote improved reading and writing in South Carolina's students.
