ABOUT V-DAY:

V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues and other artistic works. The V-Day movement has raised over $100 million; educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns; reopened shelters; and funded over 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt, and Iraq. V-Day’s most recent global campaign, ONE BILLION RISING (see info and link below) , galvanized over one billion women and men on a global day of action towards ending violence against women and girls. V-Day has received numerous acknowledgements and awards and is one of the Top-Rated organizations on both Charity Navigator and Guidestar. V-Day is a vision: We see a world where women live safely and freely.
V-Day is a demand: Rape, incest, battery, genital mutilation and sexual slavery must end now.
V-Day is a spirit: We believe women should spend their lives creating and thriving rather than surviving or recovering from terrible atrocities.
V-Day is a catalyst: By raising money and consciousness, it will unify and strengthen existing anti-violence efforts. Triggering far-reaching awareness, it will lay the groundwork for new educational, protective, and legislative endeavors throughout the world.
V-Day is a process: We will work as long as it takes. We will not stop until the violence stops.
V-Day is a day. We proclaim Valentine's Day as V-Day, to celebrate women and end the violence.

ONE BILLION RISING:

One Billion Rising is a new campaign organized by V-Day revolves around a single concept: 1 out of 3 women will experience violence in her lifetime. This alarming statistic means that over 1 billion women in the world will be impacted by violence. On V-Day's 15th Anniversary (2.14.13) ONE BILLION women and those who love them are invited to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. The purpose of this highly visible campaign is to show the world our collective strength, our numbers, and our solidarity transcends borders.
