"The Foreplays"

About The Foreplays:
Last year's production having been a screaming success, FMU's V-Week committee will once again sponsor The 4Plays, an evening of short, student-written plays dealing with sexual health and identity to be presented during the annual V-Week celebration in March of 2014.

This year, as last, students are encouraged to write short plays that deal frankly and candidly with topics ranging from sexually-transmitted diseases and pregnancy to recreational sex and fetishism. Selected plays will be announced in January of 2014. The 4Plays was conceived as an evening's entertainment that would speak to students about important issues, but in a language the students could enjoy and appreciate. They can be funny, profane, graphic, tragic, embarrassing-anything that's appropriate to their purpose, which is to raise awareness among the student body about the students' bodies."

Interested in participating in the FMU Foreplays?
For interested FMU playwrights: your plays may be for or about straights or gays or transgenders or cross-dressers, whatever you've got. One might be about herpes and the social stigma or emotional fallout that comes with it. Another might be about date rape and the mentality that causes it, or the various ways-right and wrong--of dealing with it. Another might deal with a positive pregnancy test and the wave of emotions it creates. Toys, crabs, masturbation, no topic is off limits and no language is prohibited, if it works for the play. That having been said, however, we reserve the right to make decisions about appropriateness. If you write a play advocating pyro-necro-bestiality, we may decide that, whatever its relative merits, it's too far off topic. The topic is well-being. The message is protect yourself and respect others.

All FMU students, and not just those in Creative Writing or Theatre courses, are invited to submit plays. The priority deadline for script submissions is November 22, after which the next phase of the program- planning the staged readings-can begin. Copy and other production and publication rights will belong solely to each author, and plays selected as part of The 4Plays program may, with the author's permission, be performed in subsequent years.
