|On this payroll, the arrow points to the name Hun, the name by which Archie Waiters was known. He was only fifteen years old and already he was doing a man’s work, plowing from sunrise to dark. He had worked 4.9 days, and for all of that work he was being paid $4.40. That is why people looked forward to cotton-picking time—the only time they could make more money.|
