					Skin Deep January 17 - April 6, 2006 A National Juried Exhibition Celebrating the Variety and Beauty of Ceramic Surfaces Francis Marion University Florence, South Carolina


	"SKIN DEEP" is a national juried exhibition of ceramic art celebrating the variety and beauty of contemporary ceramic surfaces. With its focus on surface development as it relates to form, function, aesthetics and/or concept, this exhibition is open to functional, nonfunctional, and sculptural works which use clay as the primary medium. The exhibition will be housed in the Hyman Fine Arts Center Gallery on the Francis Marion University campus located in Florence, South Carolina. The exhibition is presented by Francis Marion University and funded in part by the Florence Regional Arts Alliance and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as by a generous award from the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina. Juror - Val Cushing As an educator, Val Cushing spent 40 years building the ceramics program at Alfred University into the world renowned center it has become. He has exhibited, taught or presented workshops and lectures in universities, schools, museums and galleries throughout North America, Europe and Japan. Val has been author (as well as subject) of articles in professional journals, and his works have been included in numerous books on contemporary American ceramics. Awards Merit and purchase awards totaling a minimum of $1000 will be made. Eligibility "SKIN DEEP" is open to ceramic artists currently residing in the United States and its territories. All artwork submitted must be original, must use clay as the primary material and must be completed within the last two years. Artist may submit up to three artworks for consideration. All artwork must be prepared and professional presented for display.


Form of Entry Artwork will be juried in an anonymous manner by slide (plastic or cardboard mounts only). A maximum of three entries may be submitted per artist and up to three slides will be accepted to represent each entry. Artwork which differs significantly from the slide submission will be disqualified. Slides of unaccepted work will be returned if a SASE is provided with adequate postage. Slides of accepted work will not be returned. Entry Fee A nonrefundable entry fee must accompany slide submission as follows: $15 for one entry, $25 for two entries, and $30 for three entries with a maximum of three entries. Make check or money order payable to "SKIN DEEP." Size Limitation Pedestal or freestanding artwork may be no greater than 130 inches, combined height and girth. Wall pieces may be up to 1,500 square inches in any configuration. Weight for any piece should not exceed 75 pounds. "SKIN DEEP" reserves the right to exclude work that is exceptionally fragile or that presents complex exhibition problems. Delivery and Liability Shipment of works will be accepted through UPS and US POST only. Works must be shipped with a check or postage for return shipping in order to appear in the exhibit. All works must have a declared insurance value which must not exceed the selling price, if the work is for sale. Insurance during shipment to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the artist. Works will be insured by Francis Marion University while in its possession. Detailed shipping information for accepted artwork will be included with acceptance letter. Agreement Artwork must be available for purchase unless "NFS" is clearly stated on the entry mailer. No artwork accepted for the exhibition may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition. Artwork may be photographically reproduced for publicity and educational purposes. Submitting an entry constitutes an agreement on behalf of the entrant to all the conditions stated in this prospectus.
