This
will
be
the
first time the Wind
Symphony has performed
off-campus. Since this ensemble has included community
members as
well
as FMU students for several seasons, it is about time for a little
"outreach." We are most grateful to St. Luke Lutheran Church
for
providing such a wonderful venue (and organist -- the concert will
feature several
works written for band and organ).
The
program will include:
Midway March
by
John Williams
Written
for the W.W. II era movie “Midway”, this stirring
march takes a fresh
look at
the form and harmonic structure of a traditional format.
Folk
Song Suite by Ralph
Vaughan
Williams
This
three-movement work based on English folk songs is a classic of the
wind band
literature.
Deep
River
arranged by James Swearingen
James
Swearingen has written an elegant setting of this well-known spiritual.
Alleluia!
Laudamus
Te
by Alfred
Reed
This
canticle of praise
without words is a large-scale work with a symphonic sound featuring
the organ.
The Gathering of the Ranks
at Hebron
by
David Holsinger
This
exciting contemporary composition depicts and Old Testament story from
the time
of King David. It is an intense and highly rhythmic work.
