Berke McKelvey
Mr.
McKelvey comes to us from Brewster, MA. He holds a Masters
of Arts degree from the University of California at San Diego with a
major in saxophone performance. He has also earned a Bachelor
of Music degree from Berklee College of Music with emphasis in woodwind
performance, and a Bachelor of Arts in music studies from Principia
College. He has studied with Joe Viola, Laura Hunter, and
Phil Sobel. He is active in the North American Saxophone Alliance and
International Wind Synthesis Association.
Meckelvey’s diverse background includes performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Opera Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and San Diego Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed extensively with popular groups including the Temptations, Gladys Knight & the Pips and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
During the current school year he is serving as Associate Professor of eartraining at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA; he is also a professor at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA, where his responsibilities include directing performance ensembles and teaching in the music technology program. Additionally, he serves on the staff at Berklee College of Music's 5-week summer performance program. He also maintains an active schedule as a freelance musician, clinician, and educator in both the Boston and San Diego areas.
