Midway March by John
Williams, arranged by John Moss
This tuneful march is from the classic score for the W.W. II era movie,
"Midway". The compound meters, stirring melodies, and shifting key
centers combine to give the march format a fresh and vigorous feel.
The Light Eternal by James
Swearingen
On February 3, 1943, The S.S. Dorchester, an American troop transport
vessel, sank in the icy waters off the coast of Greenland, the victim
of a German U-boat. Of the 904 men aboard, 605 were lost. Among those
who perished were four army chaplains, each of a different faith, each
called to the same
duty.
The testimony of the survivors tells the story best; "As
overcrowded lifeboats capsized, as rafts drifed away empty, the only
fragment of hope came from these four men...and when the life jackets
were gone, they gave away their own." As the survivors swam away, they
remember the chaplains standing - their arms link- braced against the
slanting deck.
The Light Eternal, based on the well-known hymn "God of Our
Fathers", is a reflective work that musically recounts this magnificent
story. You will hear: A Celebration of Life, The Sinking of the Ship,
and Aftermath - Contemplation - Resolution before the final statements
of the hymn.
The Holly and the Ivy, arranged
by Chip Davis, adopted by Robert Longfield
This concert band adaptation is from the Mannheim Steamroller version
that has been so popular.
The Gathering of the Ranks at Hebron
by David R. Holsinger
Hebron was a prominent city of the Old Testament. The Gathering of the
Ranks at Hebron depicts that ime in biblical history when almost
350,000 men came together, armed for battle, determined to make David
king over
all Israel, eventually making the first ill-fated attempt at bringing
the
Arc of the Covenant back to Jerusalem. (I Chronicles 12: 23-38)
